1. NO DIGGING, NO WEEDING, NO KNEELING, NO GETTING DIRTY!!!
This is me….could be you!!!!!
4. It’s exciting…It is so much fun to watch your garden grow and produce the most delicious salad you will EVER eat! Our grandchildren run to the patio to see “Grampy and Grammy’s garden” before we even get arrival hugs! Picking their lunch is a thrill for kids of ALL ages.
5. It’s EASY…. If I can do it, anyone can! Now, who said that? The Lettuce Love Hydroponic Kit is easy to assemble (in about an hour), and the crops are easy to grow! Now, what can be better than that?
Nutrients and water are recycled.
Mix nutrients with the water in your tank, set the timer for the pump, and let ‘er rip! Check at least once a week to monitor the water level and add more when the nutrient tank is about half full….
7. Plants grow faster hydroponically!
Well, maybe not THAT fast. It has been our experience, though, that our hydroponic plants germinate and grow more rapidly than those in our “dirt” garden. Some researchers state, “The growth rate on a hydroponic plant is 30-50 percent faster than a soil plant.”
9. Growing your own food enables you to begin TAKING CHARGE of your family’s nutrition. Who wants veggies full of GMO’s? If you’ve seen Food, Inc., you know that Monsanto and other food manufacturers are adulterating our food supply. Let’s take back control! The Lettuce Love Hydroponic Garden is an economical way to GET STARTED!!!!
10. The Lettuce Love Hydroponic Garden is EXPANDABLE for your future requirements. The LLHG is a great stand-alone hydroponic system with 22 growing stations. The compact unit (footprint of approximately 18″x26″) will grow plenty of lettuce and herbs indoors or out. But…suppose you desire to grow larger plants, like….
as well as….
the innovative Lettuce Love Hydroponic Garden can be expanded to accommodate your desires. …AND….we’ll show you how!!!!
As you can see, we have had great success with our Tower Garden™! Many of our friends have expressed a desire to begin hydroponic gardening themselves, but are hesitant to invest $500. Soooooo…Phil has designed a COST EFFECTIVE hydroponic system that can be built completely out of material found at your local “big box” hardware store! We will be offering the system in kit form and we will be holding Build Your Own Hydroponic Garden “playshops” in Central Florida for those who desire more direction. Also…if you are a Do-It-Yourselfer, you’ll be able to purchase the plans only.
OK…so here we are in March…4 months after we purchased the CropKing hydroponic garden kit for hobbyists…and I have to admit that we have not yet completed the assembly. Why??? We plan to go into that in greater detail later, but, for now, suffice it to say that it did not live up to expectations…
MEANWHILE, we had heard about a local grower who also sells hydroponic garden kits… Although the store is only open for a few hours per week, we managed to get over there on Tuesday. Our plan was to purchase some of their beautiful, tasty produce, and pick the owners’ brains about hydroponics in general. Hahahahahhhh!!! We were so impressed with design of the verticle garden that we purchased it on the spot, assembled it easily, and our seedlings are GROWING!!!
More work is required on the CropKing before it will be ready for use… Leaks have occurred in the inflexible hose that was provided…the hose kinks rather than bends. The overall design, in our opinion, is not as efficient as our tower. BUT…once we can grow our crops, I’m sure that all will be forgiven!

Probably the most beloved repeat gift that we bestow on family and friends…Phil’s Fammmmmous Chex Mix…mmmm…
It’s sooooo good that my daughter-in-law once confided in me that she hides it from the rest of the family!!!
So…what makes Phil’s Chex Mix different from the ordinary run-of-the mill mix? Well…here’s a basic recipe that can be found online…
3 cups Corn Chex cereal
3 cups Rice Chex cereal
3 cups Wheat Chex cereal
1 cup peanuts
1 cup bite-size pretzels
1 cup garlic-flavor bite-size bagel chips or regular size bagel chips, broken into 1-in pieces
6 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Pre heat oven to 250 F. Assemble the dry ingredients (except for seasonings) in a roasting pan. Melt butter on the top of stove, adding Worcestershire sauce after butter melts. Pour into the dry ingredients. Add seasonings, mix well, and heat for a total of 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Cool in pan or spread until cool and dry (do not seal until mixture is completely cool.)
Phil’s secrets….to add more flavor:
Phil doubles the amount of Worcestershire Sauce, triples the peanuts to 3 cups, and increases the butter by 50%. He adds and/or substitutes the dry ingredients according to whim…including, cheese or pretzel Goldfish, Cheese-Its, Cheerios, Wheat Thins. Teddy Grahams can be added for a sweeter version…also sprinkle a few tablespoons of sugar onto the mixture after removing from the oven, but while it’s still hot. A spicy version would have cayenne and chili powder added with the spices. With a little imagination, a delicious sweet and spicy version can be created.
Actually, it is Phil’s suggestion that you taste in your mind, and trust your instincts. You’ll create a mix that will delight your taste buds!!!
Cruising on Thanksgiving has sooooooo many benefits…being served wonderful dinner, someone else cleaning up, AND no worries about a plethora of left-overs! We certainly were grateful to the wonderful crew on Royal Caribbean’s Majesty of the Seas for enhancing our delightful get-away. We’d like to share a demonstration of watermelon carving that we particularly enjoyed!
Hahahah! So…we have kinda gone on and on about fresh organic produce grown locally. We have ranted and raved against Monsanto and other commercial food manufacturers. So…we are “putting our money where our mouth is”…have “bitten the bullet”…and are “sticking our necks out”…. We have purchased a hydroponic garden kit from CropKing…and…IT HAS ARRIVED at our doorstep! We will be assembling the monster (did I say that???) asap. We believe that autumn in Florida is the perfect time to start such a project…cool enough to work outside, yet warm enough to grow our goodies! (Well, we have to admit, we’re waiting for a cool front…oh, aren’t we wimpy!) Keep you posted!!!
SUSHI!!! Drew gave us a sushi making kit, complete with an instruction video, as a Christmas gift, in 2007 (I think). We watched the video almost immediately…we were very excited at the prospect.

Well, Phil was excited…I was more…hmmm…mildly interested. You see, I had only recently discovered that sushi did not mean raw fish, and, yet, it was still not on my list of favorite foods… What IS that green stuff???

But, the creative aspect was intriguing to me, and we soon (OK, maybe a year later) began to experiment. We’ve had so much fun “rolling our own” sushi, that we will often invite friends to join us! In an effort to entice some, we have to put some thought into the ingredients…we’ve even used bratwurst!!! The evening usually includes some raucous laughter, sometimes at the expense of not-so-nimble-fingered folk (often me!) We’ve been asked to create more cooking videos, so we’ll be inviting some friends to share laughs, sushi, and camera time. We’ll be uploading to Maitri.TV as soon as we can find some victims, er, I mean, willing participants!
